Louise Charlotte Bernadotte

Nestled between France and Italy right along the sea, it declared its own independence during the 100 Year War - around 1375. They managed to avoid being reincorporated into France during Louis XI's reign. It fought to maintain independence from both Italy and France - grateful that France was frequently occupied with other major powers to fully conquer them.

Anderia was conquered during the Napoleon Wars but maintained fierce civil pride that helped it regain its own independence after the Battle of Waterloo. It did manage to avoid a lot of the main fighting during the first World War but unfortunately got dealt a heavy blow during the Second. After the war, the Anderia royal family worked hard to bring the little nation back and strengthen it up.

It is currently a small nation of about six million - with about two-thirds living in several cities and the remaining living in more rural environments. They are known for high-quality textiles, some good vacation spots along the coast - but otherwise minor in the world affairs.

National Language: French and Italian.
French is more used for government - especially on the western side of the country but both are major due to the populace being a mix of former Italian and French heritage.
Additional languages spoken: English, Spanish, and German. Though it varies depending on rural, city, and where you are at.

The Royal Line of Bernadotte has remained unbroken since independence - though the current rulership was an offshoot branch from the original after the Napoleon Wars. They were nearly wiped out several times throughout history but have managed to maintain some royal line. The line, though, is nearing an end. The current family was the late King Philippe V, his daughter Louise Charlotte Amina and his recently known second daughter who has not yet been revealed to the public. Like most monarchies, there are some cousins who could take over the throne if, perchance the sisters died. The next in line outside the immediate daughters is the Arch-Duke Umberto Bernidotte [yes, different spelling].

Succession to the throne is usually the eldest child to the current ruler. Followed by the sibling and so forth. However, there is a stipulation for twins due to the unfortunate near-Civil War that almost destroyed Anderia early in its history. This stipulation indicates that both have claim to the throne though puts into place rigorous method to ensure that the nation itself is not torn apart in the power struggle. It is due to this law that Louise Charlotte Amina Bernadotte - though for the longest time considered the Heir Apparent - does not have the only claim to the throne and the unknown sister that had been sent away has equal claim.

The Anderia Monarchy has a lot more influence than the British Monarchy. They did change after World War II to a more mix of constitutional monarchy with a bit more power to the people. That said, the royal family still has final say on law, justice, and any general decision.

Laws
Generally, laws are made through the parliament. Working very similar to the US system, you have two houses: The House of Nobles and The House of Commons. This gives power to both the nobility and the commoner. Both sides have to pass the law before it gets sent to the royal family for final approval. The Prime Minister is responsible for overseeing this process as well as working with the royal family on a lot of other factors. All laws need a "super majority" to pass - with the exception of a law sponsored by the royal family (see below).

The royal family can veto any law thus stopping it. There is no current method to overrule them.

The royal family also has the ability to introduce new law, presenting it to both Houses. The rules for laws sponsored by the royal family do not need a super majority - just any majority. This gives them a bit more power, allowing them to shape rule of law - without overbalancing the system. This could cause some concerns as though the royal family is usually united on decisions of laws, it is possible to get one member of the royal family to back a law that the rest aren't. It isn't required that ALL back it, just one.

Justice
There are multiple tiers in the court system of Anderia. The highest court of the land is a panel of three judges - A noble, a commoner, and a representative from the royal family.
The representative of the royal family doesn't have to be a member of the family itself - could be a distant cousin, someone appointed, or the royal themselves. This position can also be changed at any point. For example: The royal family can appoint someone to sit here and then step in for a day. Or this position can be changed at any time by another appointee. Though this is rare, it is allowed.

In practice, the royal family has someone appointed - usually a lesser cousin or relation, more of late a political appointee.

In addition to having a seat, the royal family retains the right to pull any case or hear any appeal and make a ruling on it. Though very uncommon, this can include overruling the High Court's decision.

Royal Family and the People
The royal family is well loved by the people. It is not overly difficult to gain an audience with a member of the royal family. Depending on the current ruler, there are days set aside to meet with the people. This could be as frequent as once a week to multiple times per month. Currently it is set every other week and overseen by the Princess Louise until someone is crowned.
These audiences can be anything from asking for justice (usually directed to the courts with the crown's personal interest to make sure it is looked into) to just giving something to the royal family. The royal family has also accepted invitations to schools, universities, churches for various activities. They don't go always and sometimes a minor representative goes, but some of the larger events might find them there.
It is often but even the minor interaction has endured the royalty to the people.

Unfortunately, the size of the current royal family has lessoned a lot of interactions. With the king (when he was alive) being a bit on the sick side his last few years and only the Heir Apparent available to do a lot of stuff, aspects were cut. Though understandable as to why this was the case, the lessening of interaction has made Princess Louise come off more standoffish than some of her predecessors.

Farfalla Palace is situated in the capitol city not too far from the government section. The front section of the palace is gated. The twelve feet walls on either side of the gate run along and then back, providing a strong level of privacy. From an outside perspective the palace doesn't seem that big. It's big but the grounds itself seems small. That's because most of the palace grounds stretch back behind it. There are the garages, stables, even a small wooded area. Gardens are situated throughout the grounds and in several of the open courtyards.

The Farfalla Palace is the home to the Royal Family, any guests that they might have, and is also usually used for a lot of more formal settings. It is also the location where the family holds 'court' and receives visitors. Any Anderia citizen is allowed to request to come before the monarchy. Though there might be security checking what they have on them and bring in, it is customary that all are allowed. A practice that has ben going on for quite some time in their history - encouraged more recently after WWII to keep that connection between the people and their leaders.
